Episode 011 | Writing Between Worlds: An Essay on Race and Literary Separatism

Hi Beloveds!

Welcome back to volume two of season one of Pen of the Beloved: A Creative Audio Diary! I'm excited to be back and start National Poetry Month off with an episode featuring one of my most recent literary essays on writing.

As a grant writer and a fiction and poetry writer, much of what I do and how I do my work is highlighted by personal experience, inspired by other writers, and such. As a Black woman, much of my writings are often reflective of my experience living a life marked by the essence of difference and otherness due to the existence of race. As someone who believes wholeheartedly that our differences make room for creative and communal expression, I see the embedment of race in my work as simply an expression of the world I live in and the society around me.
.
Inspired by Alice Walker's In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens, I'm excited to share this piece with you!

Sincerely,

Antavia, Pen of the Beloved
